經不起小兄弟的「博文挑釁」，又拿了英王喬治六世的「王者之聲」出來把玩。不過既然之前已寫過一次，今次就集中火力討論第一段其中兩個字：

In this grave hour, perhaps the most fateful
in our history, I send to every household of my peoples, both at home and
overseas, this message, spoken with the same depth of feeling for each one of
you as if I were able to cross your threshold and speak to you myself.

網上的譯本大多將 grave 譯作「莊嚴」，栗對此不敢苟同。首先，這是參戰宣言，讀出宣言的一刻，為何會以「莊嚴」形容之？那個「莊」字，想來想去都覺得不合情理。

查 OALD，在形容情況、感覺時，grave 解作 very serious and important; giving you a
reason to feel worried。須知「莊嚴」並不會讓人感到擔憂呀！失去了這層意思，翻譯便不夠傳神了。

至於 fateful，中譯一般為「命定的，決定命運的」。不過要留意，fateful 的事情一般對未來有壞影響 (having an important, often very bad, effect
on future events)，所以要說與伴侶邂逅的一天，千萬不要寫 fateful day 啊！
