這幾天一直在聽 Athena Cage 的 All or nothing，當中一句歌詞十分搶耳：

You gotta work hard to get the cream.

Cream者，奶油也。不過栗比較喜歡其音譯洋名「忌廉」，因小時候最愛看的卡通片，乃【我係小忌廉】！

看見 cream 這個字，貪吃栗立刻想到各種用忌廉製作的美食：

(creme caramel)                        [同事說這兩種甜點都不是用忌廉做的......]

美食當前，怎能沒有飲料？有人喜歡喝忌廉梳打 (cream soda)，有人喜歡喝加了咖啡伴侶 (creamer) 的咖啡，至於貪吃栗，就選擇來個英式下午茶 (cream tea，有英式鬆餅、果醬和忌廉)！

眼睛吃飽了，是時候回到文首所引的歌詞 (You gotta work hard to get the cream.)。大家可有奇怪，為何我們要辛勤工作，才能得到忌廉呢？原來忌廉是牛奶中最精華的部分，所以 cream 便引申出「精髓、精英」之意。成語 the cream of the crop (與法語的 creme de la creme 意思類近)，所取的便是此意。例：

Hong Kong was the cream of Chinese society. Hong Kongers were the creme de la creme.

別說栗用錯了時式。相信有點理性的朋友，在看完這篇文章後，都會認同我用過去式絕對沒錯。

有些暴行，可以理解，但絕對不能容忍，尤其是在香港這個文明社會。

我相信，並非所有中國人均醜陋，總有懂法紀、明事理的中國人。

可惜後者在中國社會，原來只佔極少數……
